We’re back with another set of updates designed to make your Shopify mobile app even more effective, from improving the shopping experience to giving you more control over key growth levers like AOV.

Free Shipping Progress Indicator 

What did we change and what's the value?

We’ve introduced a new free shipping progress indicator within the cart experience, allowing customers to clearly see how far away they are from qualifying for free delivery.

Instead of only discovering shipping thresholds later in the checkout journey, customers now receive clear guidance much earlier in the purchase flow. As products are added to the cart, the progress indicator updates automatically, helping shoppers instantly understand how close they are to unlocking free delivery and creating a smoother, more transparent checkout experience.

By displaying this information directly within the cart, the app is able to guide purchasing behavior more effectively at a key decision-making moment. Customers are encouraged to continue exploring products and increasing basket value before proceeding to checkout in order to reach the free shipping threshold.

For merchants focused on increasing average order value (AOV), this enhancement helps ensure your mobile app better supports common ecommerce conversion and basket-building strategies, whilst also creating a more exciting, engaging, and rewarding shopping experience for customers.

What problem did this solve?

Previously, customers would often only become aware of free shipping eligibility during the later stages of checkout, limiting visibility of this appealing incentive earlier in the shopping journey. This created a missed opportunity to influence basket building behaviour while purchase intent was still high.

Without clear progress toward free delivery, customers had less visibility into how close they were to unlocking additional value, which could result in smaller basket sizes.

By surfacing free shipping thresholds directly within the cart experience, customers now receive immediate and ongoing visibility into their delivery eligibility. This makes the path to free shipping clearer, encourages higher-value orders naturally within the browsing journey, and creates a more smooth-flowing and informed UX overall.

Where can I find this feature?

This feature appears automatically on the Cart screen for stores that use shipping configurations or automatic discounts with a free shipping option enabled.

Free shipping thresholds can be a powerful lever for increasing average order value, especially when positioned thoughtfully within your pricing strategy.

A simple way to review your current setup is to compare your Average Order Value (AOV) against your free shipping threshold:

  • If your threshold sits far above your typical order value, customers may be less motivated to add additional items, as the target can feel too distant to be worth pursuing.
  • If your threshold sits slightly above your AOV, customers are often more willing to add an extra item or two to qualify for free delivery, making it a more achievable and motivating goal.

When aligned effectively, this gap between AOV and the free shipping threshold can encourage natural basket-building behavior, helping increase order values while still feeling like a clear and attainable benefit for customers.

  • General platform stability improvements across the mobile experience to support smoother everyday usage.

While these updates sit behind the scenes, they play an important role in keeping your app fast, reliable, and ready to support day-to-day ecommerce activity. Even seemingly small enhancements like these work together to create a stronger overall UX, which is why we prioritise them.

The goal is a more connected omnichannel marketing experience, helping you coordinate customer engagement across email and mobile push more cohesively.
